Prop-Protectors installed. We had rope around one prop shaft and heavy fishing line around the other shaft when she came out of the water. When wrapped tight, a line can shut the flow of water through the bearing (right). It can stop an engine, it can break and slam the hull, and in any case, it can wreck havoc with the running gear. In this situation we would need to go over the side to remove it. |
And, for the most part, going over to unwrap or if need be, cut the line is not a problem. However, there are some parts of the ICW where going over the side is more than inconvenient. Places high on my - "I ain't gitten in that water, no siree Bob!" Which would you go overboard for?
