TORTOLA, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS – Tuesday, November 6, 2007 |
|
Tortola was named for its turtle doves, which still outnumber the 14,000 inhabitants. It is the largest island in the BVI, measuring just 11 miles east to west and 3 miles north to south. To cross from the capital Road Town on the south coast to the beaches in the north, you have to tackle the central island ridge, where Mount Sage peaks at 1,708 feet, and the highest point in the Virgin Islands archipelago. Since we had previously visited other parts of the island on other cruise adventures, we chose to stay and explore Road Town on our “shore leave.” A stop a Pusser’s Rum store is always a must do for souvenirs and rum drinks – and we did. We toasted all of you we have cruised with in the past and will visit with here on future cruises on Spirit Dancer! |
